Dear friends, we are celebrating the start of a new year, 2025 and a new cycle.

"Each year is a gift that holds hope for new adventures. May your New Year be filled with exploration, discovery, and growth". Author unknown

Gratitude. I'm here and I want to live life to the full with my feet firmly on the ground, my heart and spirit in tune with my body.

With honesty, virtue and intensity, I have lived the present and I hope you will too.

As Aristotle says, “Because it is a habit, we are not born virtuous, but we become virtuous through practice and education”.

Before I go any further, I'd like to thank you for your support during 2024. It's been a full year of learning and growth.

I'm treading my own path with a lot of hard work, dedication and perseverance. Both as woman and Afonso's partner, and as an independent multidisciplinary artist.

The satisfaction is enormous, as are the uncertainties about the near future. Ehehe.

I finished the year with the “Corais” series of paintings inspired by the low tide in Peniche, Portugal. In all, I made 13 paintings in 12x12cm format (image below) for the group exhibition and 12x12 festival; and another 3 paintings in different formats for the “Pequenos Formatos” group exhibition at Galeria Monumental.

Both exhibitions took place in December, so for those of you who went, I hope you enjoyed them.

Quantifying and making lists of the work done throughout the year has helped me to understand what I have done, what has been done and where my time has been spent. As well as gauging what I've achieved and what I've failed to accomplish.

Along the way, I've come to accept that everything takes much longer than initially anticipated, whether it's personal and/or professional projects.

During 2024, I made a total of 43 individual paintings in various formats on paper (from the smallest 12x12cm to A2 format - 420 x 594mm) and 2 canvases in 60x70cm format. I worked with different materials such as pens, watercolors, India ink, graphite, acrylic, oil and oil pastel.

I like to experiment!

I've done more than 70 drawings, including sketches and final artwork, for two books, a comic book and an illustrated album, both written and drawn by me. I hope to be able to share the results with you in the near future.

I've also had the pleasure of working with clay and creating two small ceramic sculptures. I'm already making more. More to come! Stay tuned.

In between, some of my work (postcards, books, prints and original paintings) has traveled and now inhabits various places in the world, including Canada, Japan, Holland and Colombia! What a joy!

My heart is full and I feel so happy to be able to inspire and be part of other people's lives. I like to share my vision of the world through creation.

Here are two pages from my graphic diary!

Dileydi Florez's sketches and graphic diary, 2024.

2024 is over and has left projects open for 2025:

  • The solo exhibition “Ver e Sentir através do desenho"/ "Seeing and feeling through drawing” is scheduled for June 14 until July 19, 2025 at the Serpa Municipal Library. Mark your calendars as there will be a creative workshop at the opening. Curious? I'm very curious.

  • I'm on the list of 20 finalists for the first edition of the Portalegre Tapestry Award and by the end of January I'll be presenting three Art pieces/tapestry cards to the competition. That's exciting! There will be a group exhibition later this year with all the finalists' work and the public will also be able to vote. I'll share more information later.

As part of the competition, I had the opportunity to meet the other selected artists on a two-day artistic immersion in Portalegre, Pt.

On the first day we visited the Portalegre Tapestry Manufactory and on the following day, the Portalegre Tapestry Museum - Guy Fino which I highly recommend you visit.

It was a very enriching and inspiring experience.

Both Saturday night and Sunday morning I went for a walk around the city, which was beautiful.

I've put together a video of what I saw:

I would like to thank all the organizers and people involved in this first edition of the competition for this opportunity. A special thank you to the Portalegre Tapestry Manufactory for opening its doors and to the weavers who came to work at the weekend so that we could watch them work their magic on their looms, and talk to them about their art; to Dr Vera Fino for the guided tours and all the sharing, to the Museum and its management, to Sandra Loureiro from the organization for her attention and dedication, and to Portalegre Town Hall for welcoming us.

Thank you so much. I loved everything.

Among the various artistic projects I've shared previously and which are currently underway, I want to tell you that there are new original paintings available to bring you color and brighten up the spaces you inhabit. ^^

All the paintings were created with love and care. And they were inspired by nature.
